  2. Other Disturbances( 5%)- Volcanic eruption, landslides, and explosions.

PRINCIPLES OF EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT BUILDING

Every building is expected to experience moderate to major earthquakes during its life period. The main principle of earthquake-resistant design is the building should not collapse whatever may be the damages either repairable or irreparable.

The collapse of RC buildings is generally preventable if the following principles of earthquake-resistant design are observed:-
❖ Failure should be ductile rather than brittle.
❖ Flexure failure should precede shear failure.
❖ Beams should fail before columns.
❖ Connections should be stronger than the members that fit into them.
